Asheville, NC, is a wonderful city with something for just about everyone to do. Whether you are out for a boy's weekend, a family vacation, or simply exploring the city, you can’t go wrong in Asheville. However, with that said, there are plenty of amazing things to do that may be off the beaten path or not quite on the mainstream list of things to do.
To help, we have put together a quick guide of fun things to do in Asheville this weekend (or any weekend, for that matter). We have included some of our favorite well-known attractions, as well as some hidden gems.
Things To Do in Asheville on the Weekend
Take a Trip Through Time at the Biltmore Estate
First, let's get the big one out of the way. Everyone knows about the Biltmore Estate, and if you don't, you are likely living under a rock. All joking aside, the Biltmore Estate and Winery is a wonderful place to spend a day exploring the largest private residence in the United States.
Built by George Washington Vanderbilt II during the heat of the gilded age, this sprawling 178,926 sq ft mansion is yours to explore for the day. There are several different ticket options, including the traditional guided tour, as well as private tours, and art exploration passes.
In addition to the Estate, Biltmore Winery is a prestigious vineyard and winery that was established in 1985. A tasting is included in all Biltmore Estate tickets, and an additional winery tour can be added on for additional cost.
Spend a Day Exploring the River Arts District
If you have never been to the RAD (River Arts District), then have you truly lived? This area exudes art. There are massive murals covering old warehouses that have been converted into art spaces and craft beer joints. It is honestly the gem of Asheville.
Honestly, you could spend an entire day exploring the wonders of the RAD. To start your adventure, grab a coffee and a quick breakfast at Summit Coffee before setting off to look at the wonderful murals surrounding the area. If you skateboard, make sure to hit the Foundation DIY skatepark, a legendary space built entirely by the local skate scene.
There are also plenty of opportunities to learn how to make art, with classes and demonstrations in glass blowing and ceramics. Additionally, you can check out the many artist studios where artists live and work.
If you’re looking for good beer, look no further than the Wedge, a world-famous Asheville brewery that has been bringing people together over good beer since 2017.
Get Outside
Asheville could easily be called the outdoor recreation capital of the East. There is so much to do outdoors, from simply driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway to climbing the sheer rock faces of Looking Glass Mountain. If nature is medicine, then Asheville is a grand pharmacy.
Catch a Show
There are plenty of incredible music venues across Asheville, including:
- The Gray Eagle
- Rabbit Rabbit
- The Orange Peel
- Asheville Music Hall
One of the most unique venues is Off The Wagon Dueling Piano Bar.
