Treat Yourself with the Best Wellness Spots in Asheville
Wellness spots can be dedicated centers or simply locations that improve the health of both your mind and body. Let’s take a look at the best places around town and throughout the area where you can take a break and just enjoy life.
1. Day Spas
Probably what you think of immediately when someone mentions a wellness spot would be day spas. The following spa locations will leave you feeling pampered and refreshed with a range of amenities from therapeutic massages, hot soaks in mineral waters, and just a general focus on healing your body and mind.
- Asheville Salt Cave and Spa: Salt is naturally anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, which can help reduce congestion, open airways, and lessen the effects of allergies. Coupled with meditative therapies and massage, these benefits of salt are the basis for the Asheville Salt Cave’s restorative experience.
- Sauna House: Located in downtown Asheville, this spa takes a Nordic approach to wellness. With a variety of sauna options, massages, and a cold plunge on offer. Here you will mix temperature therapies with a mantra of Hot/Cold/Relax. Most treatments are communal, so if you are looking to relax with friends or loved ones, this is the spot.
- Adelaide Spa & Salon: If you just want a place to relax that is perhaps a little less unique in your spa experience, Adelaide Spa & Salon is a superb day spa. Featuring the full array of traditional spa wellness services, you’ll get a customized experience with help from their on-site therapists.
2. Overnight Stays
While day spas can help leave you refreshed and reinvigorated, you are heading right back home and to the daily grind. Sometimes the ticket to well-being is a relaxing weekend or overnight stay where you don’t have to return to the worries of life immediately. Taking an extended trip to an overnight spa can double down on your wellness gains.
- Omni Grove Park Inn Spa: With a strict no electronics policy, twenty water features, and mineral baths, it is no surprise this 43,000 square foot subterranean getaway retreat is one of the best spas in the world. Coupled with the sublime grandeur of the Inn’s views, first-class dining, and impeccable service, there is no better place to overnight in Asheville.
- Skyterra Wellness Retreat: Nestled in the Land of the Waterfalls, this retreat center is about more than a spa day. You can stay as long as you like and get help from experts on stress management, fitness, and food that will help you start-up or revitalize a healthy lifestyle when you return home.
- Shoji Spa & Lodge: This Japanese-style retreat will leave you questioning if you really are just outside of bustling Asheville. Quiet and seclusion reign here, with traditional Japanese bathing in private outdoor salt tubs, contemplative relaxation, massages, and skin treatments. While we recommend this spot for its overnight lodging, you don’t have to stay to enjoy the spa.
3. Nature's Own Remedy
Spa retreats leave you rested and calm, but nothing can top the physical and mental invigoration that comes from immersing yourself in the natural world and hitting the trails. Western North Carolina, specifically around Asheville, has miles of paths showcasing incredible views and fresh mountain air.
Here are our favorite spots to hike, though we definitely have more recommendations.
- Craggy Gardens: This low-difficulty hike doesn’t disappoint with the views. You’ll traverse mountain balds at a high elevation that provides stunning panoramic views of the horizon. You’ll find a visitor center located off the Blue Ridge Parkway at MP 364.
- Rattle Snake Lodge: Trek through beautiful hardwood forests on an old road until you reach the remains of a 1900s estate. This trial sees a little less traffic compared to others in the area, helping you connect even more with nature. Pick up the trailhead just off Ox Creek Road at Bull Gap.
- Graveyard Fields: This hike combines a little bit of all the mountains have to offer. Wooded seclusion, breathtaking mountain views, and sublime waterfalls. The loop starts right off the Parkway southwest of Asheville.
4. A Healthy Dose of Fun
A relaxing spa day or an invigorating hike aren’t the only ways to boost your physical and mental well-being. Having a good laugh causes very real mental and physical changes in our bodies that can dramatically improve our well-being.
So make sure to cool down and treat yourself to some quality fun entertainment.
