1. The NC Arboretum
Gardens, trails, and more can be found at the North Carolina Arboretum, a 434-acre public garden located within the beautiful Bent Creek Experimental Forest of the Pisgah National Forest.
Just south of downtown Asheville, the NC Arboretum is home to 65 acres of cultivated gardens, including the Bonsai Exhibition Garden and the National Azalea Garden. There are also rotation art, science, and educational exhibits that are displayed year-round, as well as a dazzling light show called Winter Lights during the holiday season.
2. Asheville Pinball Museum
Love pinball and classic arcade games? The Asheville Pinball Museum is home to 35 classic pinball machines and 35 classic arcade consoles that you and your family can enjoy as long as you want for just $15 a person.
3. Go for a Drive
Asheville is nestled right against a stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway known for its high mountain vistas. There is nothing quite like a drive down one of America’s most famous scenic highways.
Stretching nearly 470 miles, the Blue Ridge Parkway offers a slow-paced and relaxing drive through some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Appalachian Highlands. If you are visiting during the fall, the colors are gorgeous.
4. Biltmore Estate
Of course, no round-up of things to do in Asheville could omit the famous Biltmore Estate, “America's Largest Private Home.” While some may think that the Biltmore is not kid-friendly, it is. Not only is there a special audio tour for children, but there are also plenty of things for children throughout the grounds. One of the coolest playgrounds around can be found at Antler Hill Village.
